01

Connect your BrokenGPT account.

Select BrokenGPT in the connection panel and complete authorization in the browser. BrokenCode stores the resulting credential locally. The BrokenGPT connection uses the stable broken-one model alias; OpenCode is the default connection on a fresh install.

  1. Open Settings, then Model connections.
  2. Choose Connect BrokenGPT.
  3. Authorize the device in your browser and return to BrokenCode.
  4. Confirm the connection indicator is green before starting a session.
02

Credentials stay out of project files.

  • Never paste a token into brokencode.json or commit it to a repository.
  • Disconnect from Settings to revoke the local BrokenCode link.
  • Reconnect if authorization was interrupted or the local credential expired.
03

Choose an available free OpenCode Zen model.

OpenCode is first in the provider picker and is the default on a fresh installation across desktop and terminal platforms. Your explicit or saved model choice takes precedence. Open the model picker to see the current free catalog. Models explicitly listed as free can be used without adding an API key. Availability and usage limits are set by that service; the catalog can change.

  • Free models are shown separately from models that require a connection.
  • You can connect an OpenCode Zen API key for models available to your account.
  • OpenCode Zen is a separate model connection selected by you. BrokenGPT continues to use the stable broken-one alias and private routing.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

01Can I start without an API key?

Yes. Choose an available model explicitly listed as free under OpenCode Zen. The service's availability and usage limits still apply.

02Does this change BrokenGPT routing?

No. BrokenGPT remains a separate connection with the stable broken-one alias and a privately routed mixture of open-source models.
